Don't Write About Photography
You shouldn’t write about photography. It is a visual. No need to talk about it. Let the photos do the talking.
I’ve tried before. A dedicated blog. Where I’d offer tips and insights.
Crap idea.
I set off like a writer on a mission. Wrote a couple of posts. Then got stuck.
What next?
I refused to write about gear. Because then, I’d be like a magazine. And they already have that stuff covered.
I didn’t want to talk about art. Photography is not art. And that thought gave me an idea.
I wrote another post. Photography is not art. It caused a stir. A few people argued with me. Fair enough. I still think they were wrong.
But it made me think. I could write something controversial. Like the art one.
So I wrote that photography is about picking the right moment. Nothing more. Nothing less.
A few readers argued. And a few agreed.
Great, I was on a roll.
Next? No clue. I couldn’t come up with anything new. So I gave up.
Having been through that cycle a few times, I said no more.
And yet, here I am. Writing about photography again.
Why?
Because I have things to say, things to share. That might be useful. I said I’d give it one more go.
