A damp one, this. It rained in a mist the whole time I walked around the Gloucester Quays. The sort of rain that smears your lens. And soaks your jacket before you’ve realised it.
I kept my camera under my jacket. Then, it was a case of see a shot, unzip, grab the shot and zip it back inside my jacket again.
The warehouses are famous at Gloucester Quay. As I walked, it took me a while to figure out a way to shoot them. Back and forth I went, framing and reframing.
The rain and blank grey slab of sky didn’t help.
Then, it struck me. Stand in line with them. Take the shot in portrait mode. Let the shapes and patterns speak for themselves.
That’s what I did.
The simple approach wins more often than not.
