Freezing it was, cold enough for a big coat. And misty. But off I went for a walk anyway. Not far, up to our local park in Coventry.

I had a reason to go. I bought a small point-and-shoot film camera from Catch Cameras. These cameras are great. Load a roll of film, Kodak Gold 200 in this case, and off you go.

Yeah, but…

The light. All that mist. A cheap little point-and-shoot. What were the chances of me getting a good shot? A photo that would come out at all? Slim. But I wanted to try. I saw the scene in the photo and liked it for two reasons.

First, the arrangement of the trees. A triangle. I’m a simple soul like that. I like shapes.

Second, the light. And that mist. Tricky when you have control of the exposure triangle. When you don’t? You pop the shutter and hope for the best.

That’s what I did. Because I don’t like leaving photos out there. Even if there was a chance the shot might not work. I reckon this photo did. It was a simple camera meant for use in decent light, sure, but it nailed this one.

I like the shot. I caught the atmosphere. That’s what I was after. It makes the whole picture.

Sometimes, you’ve got to trust that the camera and film will do the job.
