Here’s one I walked past at first. I was in Coventry City Centre on the way back home after a photo walk. It was early autumn and the light was amazing.

I walked past the Council House and on down the road, thinking about the walk home. Yeah, not long before I could get in and make a brew.

Then I stopped. Dead in my tracks.

I walked back up the road and took another look, working out what I’d seen. At first, I didn’t see it. But I walked around, framing and re-framing. Then, I got it. The view you see here.

I liked the natural frame of the foliage from the tree, and the heavy trunk itself. The light cutting across the front of the building looked great. There wasn’t much else to think about. I framed up and took the photo.

Now, I had Ilford HP5+ loaded. It handles contrast brilliantly, and the greys always have punch. I reckoned the photo would turn out fine, but it came out flawless. You can see the age of the building—all those great textures in the brickwork.

I made a note to myself that day: sometimes, it’s worth walking back to see what you missed.
